Syngonium Podophyllum Plant
The green Syngonium podophyllum is native to the tropical rain forests in Central and South America. It is a simple and elegant, also versatile houseplant. On the scale of difficulty level, we ranked it intermediate. Also, Syngonium podophyllum is a great-looking houseplant that needs only modest care.
It also makes a pretty trailing and climbing vine that tends to aggressive growth under favorable conditions. But sometimes mislabelled as Nephthytis, the Syngonium podophyllum plant is a tropical climber in the Arum family. As the plants mature, the leaves change from a simple arrow shape to a deeply lobed or divided mature leaf, and many cultivars have variegated leaves to some degree or another.
Care guide
Light: If grown in medium to bright indirect light, Syngonium podophyllum will grow faster and have a vibrant color and markings. If grown in direct sunlight, the leaves will scorch.
Water: Allow these plants to dry out partially between watering. If you left the plant dry for too long the lower leaves will dry up and turn brown.
Humidity: The plant tolerates average home humidity but enjoys high humidity. To keep your plant so happy, create a wet pebble tray underneath the plant or incorporate a humidifier into the space.
Temperature: This plant will grow in most household temperatures ranging from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. They don’t do well if the temperature drops below 50°F. Also, keep them away from drafts and doorways in the winter months.
Fertilizer: Feed the plant during the growing season with ½ strength complete liquid fertilizer twice a month. Or you can use a slow-release fertilizer or top-dress with worm castings or compost in early spring.
