Angel wing begonia red
Red angel wing begonias, first found in South America, are among the most popular of the cane begonias. It has long stems with “joints” at the ends. From these joints, begonia plants sprout leaves and flowers. The leaves of angel wing begonias have a dark red color and are shaped like angel wings.
Angel wing begonia plants are easy to grow outdoors in hanging baskets or pots and indoors as houseplants. They grow well in partial sun to shady locations.
Care guide
Light: Angel Wing begonias prefer bright indirect light but no direct sun. Sufficient light helps the leaves and flowers develop a more intense color. Insufficient light causes the plant to become leggy and prevents blooming. When light is too intense, the edges of the leaves get curl and turn brown.
Water: Not to over-water this plant! If the plant is in a small pot, allow the topsoil to dry out before watering. Angel Wing Begonia pot must have drip holes in the bottom for proper drainage and it should never sit in water. When over-watered, the leaves of the plant turn yellow and fall off.
Fertilizer: Feed your plant monthly in the spring and summer when it is actively growing with a liquid plant food high in potassium. To prevent leaf burn, fertilize Begonias when the soil is damp and always dilute the food to 1/2 the recommended strength.
Temperature: This plant does well when the temperature is 65°-75°F. Temperatures below 50°F damage the plant.
Humidity: Average room humidity is sufficient for your plant. Never mist a begonia plant; the wet leaves can encourage powdery mildew and Leaf Spot Diseases.
