Care Guide
Light: Keep a bonsai in a bright area of the house if you want to keep it indoors. It is ideal to grow Ulmus indoor bonsai trees on windowsills with plenty of sunlight.
Water: Ulmus bonsai cannot survive long droughts or excessive moisture. Once the topsoil has dried, generously water the roots to keep them hydrated.
Soil: These bonsais require a potting mix with well-drained soil. In addition to moist and wet soil, they can also thrive in drought-like conditions (but not extremely dry for long periods). Make sure the soil is dry before watering again. Watering doesn’t need to have a proper schedule.
Fertilizer: In the growing season, apply mild organic fertilizers in the form of pellets or liquids, ideally containing equal parts nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (NPK). For pellets, it’s best to apply them every month, and for liquid, every two weeks.
Temperature: Despite their tolerance for drafts, Elms do not like extreme temperature changes. For tropical bonsai trees, 60-70°F is ideal.
