How to Use Clay Dahi Handi
- Before using the clay pot, soak the pot overnight.
- Next morning, allow it to dry completely. After that, it is ready for use.
Cleaning your Clay Pot
- Rinse the pot well with hot water.
- Put one tablespoon of salt.
- Gently scrub the pot with a light scrubber (or coconut coir).
- Wipe it with a cotton cloth and allow it to dry completely.
- Don’t use harsh detergents, as clay is porous, this might absorb the chemicals that will be hazardous to health.
- ‘Rakh’ or ‘Ash’ is the suitable cleansing agent for any Earthen Cookware.
Storing Your Clay Pot
- Place the inverted lid at the bottom of the clay pot with a paper towel in between (to let it breathe).
- Ensure it is completely dry before you put it away for a longer period. A mold may form in a damp pot that is stored for long periods.
- If there is mold formation, apply a paste of equal parts baking soda and water. Leave them for at least 30 minutes. After that, brush, rinse well, and let it dry, preferably in bright sunlight.
