Philodendron Black Cardinal

Black Cardinal has shiny bronze and blackish green leaves with lush foliage. The leaves are oval or truly lance-shaped, emerging light orange or bronze. New leaves, on the other hand, emerge burgundy crimson at first, then mature to a dark green as they age. The leaves will turn virtually black as they develop.

Flowers are a blackish-red, cloak-like wrapping spathe around a white, finger-like spadix that can bloom at any moment during the summer. The Black Cardinal Philodendron Plant is one of the easiest houseplants to maintain. It’s a hardy plant flourishing in a variety of environments.

It can live outside in tropical climates, but it is primarily used as a houseplant in the rest of the world. In comparison, blooms can occur on this fast-growing climber any time of year, though most plants in captivity never bloom. It is an evergreen vine that thrives well in partial shade and at moderate temperatures.

Caring Tips

  • Root rot is caused by soaking them in water or keeping the Black Cardinal Philodendron plant damp all the time.
  • When leaves turn yellow at the same time, it could indicate that your plant is receiving too much sunlight.
  • If the Philodendron Black Cardinal plant leaves are drooping, it could signify too much or too little water.
  • You should sprinkle water every three to four days during the winter.
  • Philodendrons are not insect-prone, but aphids and mealybugs may be present. You can remove mealybugs with rubbing alcohol-soaked cotton balls. Keeping pests at bay can be as simple as watering the plant and applying insecticidal soap on a regular basis.
  • If you’re keeping them indoors, it’s best to rotate the plants every few weeks, giving them a few days in a bright window or on a balcony.
  • You just need to fertilize once a month during the winter.
