Ficus compacta species are characterized by their unique inflorescence and distinctive pollination syndrome, which utilizes wasp species belonging to the Agaonidae family for pollination. 

The always popular ficus compacta variegated tree is a member of the fig family and perfect for caring for as a houseplant. 

In their natural habitat, most ficus trees produce aerial roots, which are often used to create roots over rock style. To enable aerial root growth in your homes a humidity of nearly 100% must be achieved artificially.

Light: This ficus plant enjoys bright indirect or filtered light. Also, bright and direct light can cause scalding of leaves and leaf loss. Hence, it is best to provide them with indirect light.

Temperature: Ficus compacta variegated cannot tolerate low temperatures or drafts. They need to be kept in temperatures above 16 ℃.  Actually, they prefer temperatures above 21℃. Cold drafts from windows or doors will harm this plant, so make sure to place them somewhere where drafts are not an issue.

Humidity: While growing ficus indoors, it’s important to maintain relatively high humidity around this plant. Hence,  regular misting or setting the ficus plant on a pebble tray filled with water is a great way to promote their humidity, also, keep in mind that while they like high humidity, they do not prefer overly wet roots.

Watering:  When watering, always check the topsoil first. If the topsoil is wet, don’t water it as this means that plants have enough moisture. If the topsoil feels dry to the touch, this indicates that they need water. 

Fertilizer: While caring for a ficus plant, be aware that they grow rapidly and require plenty of nutrients to grow well. Hence, fertilize them ( any organic fertilizer) once a month in the spring and summer and once every two months in the fall and winter.

Soil: In soil, they like rich, humusy, and well-drained soil.

• Cold drafts from windows or doors will harm the ficus plant. Therefore, make sure to place them somewhere where drafts are not an issue.
• Leaf loss is the most common problem with ficus plants. Leaf drop is a ficus tree’s standard reaction to stress, whether it is from any of the following, Under watering or over watering, low humidity, too little light, relocation, repotting, drafts, range in temperature (too hot or cold).
