5 Years Old Ficus Microcarpa Bonsai Tree
The Ginseng Ficus is a marvel of botanical grafting. The thick, air-filled trunk—resembling ginseng roots—is grown for several years before a different variety of Ficus microcarpa is grafted onto the top to provide smaller, more aesthetic leaves.
Standing at a compact 25cm, this tree is specifically cultivated for indoor life. It is incredibly resilient to the dry air of modern homes and is known as the "Beginner's Bonsai" because of its ability to bounce back from missed waterings. Its waxy leaves are excellent at retaining moisture, while the massive root base stores nutrients, allowing the tree to thrive even in smaller ceramic vessels.
5-Year-Old Ficus Care Guide
☀️ Light & Location
- Window Placement: Loves a bright windowsill but prefers filtered light over harsh, direct midday sun.
- Temperature: Keep it in a room that stays between 15°C and 24°C. Avoid placing it near heaters or AC vents which can dry out the leaves.
💧 Watering & Humidity
- Consistency: Water thoroughly when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch.
- Drainage: Ensure the ceramic pot drains completely; never let the bulbous roots sit in standing water.
- Leaf Care: Mist the leaves 2-3 times a week to mimic the tropical humidity it craves.
✂️ Maintenance & Growth
- Pruning: To maintain the 25cm height, trim back new shoots to two leaves once they have grown significantly.
- Feeding: Use a general-purpose liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer.
- Leaf Drop: Don't panic if it drops a few leaves after arriving at your home—it is simply acclimating to the new light levels.
